Tender to expand and manage Kavala port in 2009
(ANSA) - ATHENS - In 2009 a call for bids will be published for the building of a new
logistics area in the Greek port of Kavala, eventually there will be an additional tender for the
management of the entire port system. The announcement was made by the managing director of the
Macedonian port, Nikos Panaghiotopoulos. The calls for bids will be made once ongoing renovation
and extension work on the port structure is complete. According to the Italian Institute for
Foreign Trade, Dubai Ports World, which participated in the tender for the ports of Piraeus and
Salonica, as well as several Chinese firms, have expressed serious interest in the
initiative and paid official visits to the Greek Ministry of Mercantile Marine and the
Kavala Port Authority.
